Pen Pals -Japan-

pen pal たるゆえんですが、本を模したパッケージの奥付の部分には、文通友達（pen pal）宛の手紙が収録されており、自分の国の生活や文化を簡単に紹介しています。



せっかくなので日本の子を紹介したいと思います。箱のふた（本の表紙）を開くとそこには人形が一体納められています。まるでロングスカートのような着物？　海外の方が抱く日本のイメージですね＾＾。恐らく60〜70年代に製造されたものだと思いますが、手紙によると、この女の子の名前は「ミツエ」九州に住んでいます。弟の名前は「ノスケ」。って、いつの時代設定でしょうか＾＾？

ちょっと文章も面白そうなので、下記にそのまま掲載します。興味のある方は読んでみて下さい。

Dear Pen Pal,

My name is Mitue and I live in Japan, often called 'The Land of Rising Sun.' Japan is made up of four main islands and hundreds of tiny ones. Our is the south island, Kyushu. As I write I look out and see the pink cherry blossom and purple irises in the garden, and beyond them the tea plantation belonging to my father, or Oto-san. (Oto means papa and san means Mr., so I suppose we really call our father 'Mr. Papa' !) The tea bushes have pointed leaves that are picked while they are still tender, and my younger brother Nosuke and my self go to help with the picking.
In Japan we have two festivals specially for children, one for girls and one for boys. On March 3rd is the Doll Festival, and to celebrate my friends and I dress in our prettiest kimonos. (We do not wear kimonos every day, but some of our aunts and grandmothers still do.) I give a dolls' tea party and decorate my room with a really special flower arrangement. Then we all have tea sitting round on mats and using cups without handles - which I expect seems very strange to you. I Japan the very correctly. The hostess always offers the tea and to saucer balanced in the palms of both hands, and to spill even a drop would be a tragedy! Some of my dolls have been in the family for generations and the most precious I only bring out once a year for the Festival, them away again.
Nosuke thinks our tea party very silly - but all about the house - this is women's work. The day he looks forward to is May 5th when all the boys fly fish from poles. I don'T mean real fish, of course! We all help to make them from cloth or paper, hollow so that the wind can fill them, and paint them in gay colours. Some are enormous, perhaps ten or fifteen feet, and look like giant fish swimming in the air. Every boy has his own fish and they are tied to poles with the oldest boy's on top.
My mother - or Oka-san - wears her best kimono on this day with an obi, or wide sash, tied in a bow at the back. Then she gives a special supper for Nosuke's friends, with dried seaweed, pickled radishes and dried octopus as a treat. I wonder whether you would like these dishes? We use hashi, or chopsticks, for eating with, and sometimes we have had great fun watching visitors from other countries trying to use them. It looks easy, but it isn't.
Once an English girl called Susan came to stay, and I must tell you of the amusing things that happened. When Susan arrived at our house the first surprise was to find that none of us was wearing shoes. She said 'Oh, dear, I haven't bought my slippers!' and how we all laughed! Oka-san explained that we never wear shoes in the house, so Susan took hers off.
Then grandmother called us to supper and Susan said, 'Oh dear - where' the table?' Soon she was sitting on a mat on the floor with the rest of us, eating her rice and vegetables with a spoon - she couldn't manage chopsticks.
But the best joke was at bedtime when I showed her to her room. 'But there's no bed!' she cried. I showed her how to unroll her futon, which is a thick quilt that we lay on the floor. Next morning she said she had never slept so well in her life!
I hope one day you will come to Japan and learn some of our customs for yourself.
But now I will leave, saying 'Watakushitachi wa tomodachi desu', which is the Japanese way of saying, 'We are friends'. And I hope we are!

こっそり集めているお人形を紹介します。
海外版「ジャルパックドール」とでも言いましょうか？ヘッドは「ジャルパックドール」と全く同じ型が使われています。ちなみにヘッドの刻印は「perfekta」。

全て揃ったら壮観でしょうけど、「ジャルパックドール」でさえ３体しか持ってない私には、コンプリートは無理でしょうね。。。



もう一つ、「ジャルパックドール」との大きな違いは「tiny teen」に良く似たボディが使われていること。靴を見ると「tiny teen」と共用ではないかと感じます。ただ、ウエストがツイストするところが特徴です。
